Is Nirvana the reason rock music, concerts, t-shirts, etc were more popular in the 80s than the 90s?

Thursday Sep 3, 2009

Yes, Nirvana made a new brand of rock the thing in the 90s. Is that why the 90s were NOT as good for rock as the 80s?

Country was the biggest genera of the 90s. Garth sold the most albums and Shania had the decade’s top selling record.

Explain yourself a bit, please.

I would hardly think country was the biggest genre of the 90’s. Garth Brooks was one of the top selling artists and did get a lot of people to buy a country album when they wouldn’t have otherwise but that didn’t necessarily carry over to other country artists. Shania Twain is technically a country singer but her albums outside of North America were remixed and released as pop albums. As for concerts being more popular in the 80’s than 90’s that’s not true, if anything the 90’s showed that people would pay a lot of money to see a concert, since the average price of tickets skyrocketed in the 90’s. Maybe people couldn’t afford the t-shirts after that…
Getting back to your question, Nirvana certainly influenced rock music in the early 90’s, but there was many other popular artists doing their part: Pearl Jam, Guns n’Roses, Green Day, Aerosmith, Metallica, U2, Creed and so on. Nirvana were important, but despite what VH1 or Rolling Stone might have you believe they weren’t the summary of the 90’s.

Your question doesn’t seem to make sense considering Nirvana were not known in the 80’s

Nirvana was underground in late 80s.

It was with the unexcepted (and unasked for) success of Nevermind and it’s lead singles, "Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are"

huh??!? the 80’s were the worst decade for music in the history of rock. the reason shirts, posters, etc. were more popular in the 80’s is because all the sheep watching mtv wanted to look just like the watered down crap rock bands that were marketed to the masses through mtv.
