While there’s probably no Christmas album this year that is as anticipated as was last year’s Josh Groban Christmas cd Noel (although Josh does appear on Brian McKnight’s holiday cd), there’s definitely some interesting choices. Elvis’s Christmas Duets attempts to refashion the King’s Xmas music by having country singers sing along side his originals; Faith Hill’s Christmas album may surprise many of her fans with it’s big-band format; Tony Bennett, Harry Connick & Brian Setzer’s collections are perfect for those who like a bit of swing with their holiday music; Los Lonely Boys bring their blend of Latino folk and rock to the season; Aretha Franklin’s soulful holiday cd is surprisingly her first; and in one of the oddest comebacks, the Archies return with a holiday album, even subtitling their album “featuring Betty & Veronica” just to clarify that, yes, it’s those Archies. All in all, not a bad lineup of holiday music for 2008.
