New Elvis Christmas Duets Album On The Way

Wednesday Sep 24, 2008

Just when you think that Elvis’ Christmas music could not be re-packaged any further, Sony BMG is about to release a new Elvis Christmas album, Elvis Presley Christmas Duets, that ‘reinvents’ his Xmas classics as country duets with contemporary artists such as Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Gretchen Wilson. While it’s not the most original idea (remember the Sinatra Duets albums?), it’ll certainly give the fans a new reason to re-buy Blue Christmas all over again. The all-female duet lineup makes me wonder if a male duet sequel is in the works, especially when only 10 of the King’s Christmas songs were used (along with 3 new solo remixes). It’ll be interesting to see if Elvis ends up competing with himself on radio come Christmas time, will listeners want to hear the originals or new vamped-up versions?
The song lineup:
1. Blue Christmas with Martina McBride
2. I’ll Be Home For Christmas with Carrie Underwood
3. Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane) with LeAnn Rimes
4. Santa Claus Is Back In Town with Wynonna Judd
5. Silent Night with Sara Evans
6. White Christmas with Amy Grant
7. Merry Christmas Baby with Gretchen Wilson
8. O Little Town Of Bethlehem with Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town
9. Silver Bells with Anne Murray
10. O Come, All Ye Faithful with Olivia Newton-John

Bonus Tracks [Remixed]
11. The First Noel (2008) Elvis Presley
12. If I Get Home On Christmas Day (2008) Elvis Presley
13. Winter Wonderland (2008) Elvis Presley

The Canadian version also has an extra duet with Renée Martel, On A Snowy Christmas Night. The album is to be released on Oct.14.

Dawn:

The Canadian version has an extra song? Did any other countries get a bonus song as well?

Shane:

Apparently the original idea was to have different versions of the album with artists from the country it was released in, but they decided against it in the end. I’m not sure why Canada got an extra song.
